Mayda -- Announcements
Sally Dawson has agreed to organize the session on ttbar. She
will
participate next week by phone.
Tom Rizzo seems willing to organize the session on W physics, and
will also work on exotics.

Adam Para -- Summary of gg-collider section in Yellow Book
=============================================
Adam presented the detailed outline prepared by Jeff Gronberg and
Tom Rizzo. The intent is to summarize what has already been done.
The first draft is due in March. Fifteen pages have been allocated,
and they have decided to split it 5 for physics, 10 for the machine.
The physics case.
- There is a long table of physics possibilities which needs
to be
trimmed down. We should stick to what will "make
the case" for
the gamma-gamma collider.
1. Higgs, SM and SUSY (2 pages)
2. sparticle production, mainly gg -->
pairs, but also
e- gamma -> selectron +
neutralino. (2 pages?)
3. anomalous couplings of W's
(1/2 page)
4. anomalous top couplings
(1/2 page)
- There was an organization meeting for the LC last Friday.
It was generally agreed that the NLC should have two interaction
regions, one at "high" energy, and the other at "low."
Machine Section
- There should be concrete discussion of:
1. details of the gamma-gamma collider
2. design of the interaction region
3. status of laser technology
- David Asner is studying how to optimize the beam design for
a gamma-gamma collider mode. For example, how much
can be
gained by using round beams? How much can the photon
scattering
rate be increased above current estimates?
discussion and comments
- Michael pointed out the claims of a paper today that the
gamma-gamma collider can find H and A even when, generically,
an e+e- or pp machine cannot, thanks to the loop processes
available in gamma-gamma collisions. hep-ph/0101083
- Marcela pointed out the need to make the community aware of
the potential of a gamma-gamma collider, and that ignorance
may be the largest barrier we face.
- She also asked whether the intent was to show complementarity
with e+e-, or to show superiority in specific measurements?
Answer: this will be pursued in the Higgs workshop in
May
(which Marcela is organizing). For the gamma-gamma workshop
the main point is to gather information and understanding
--
including real studies and simulations -- in order to
be in
a position to participate in the Higgs WS and in Snowmass.
- Michael has started a web page with lists of gamma-gamma
papers, see
http://lotus.phys.northwestern.edu/~schmittm/ggCollider/bibliography.html
- How well can we distinguish SM and MSSM Higgs?
- Mayda would like to include some description of the crystal
technology. She will provide the needed information
to Adam,
including luminosities.
- Adam stressed that we do not want to provide anything which
can
be abused by those who are against a gamma-gamma collider.
- It is expected that the machine would run in e-e- mode.
- The yellow book should emphasize the importance of polarization.
- How do we measure the polarization?
- How do we measure the luminosity? Toru Takahashi at
Hiroshima University has begun to study this problem concretely.
We need to contact him for details.

Mayda - travel support
==============
Two famous speakers already have agreed to come to the workshop
- Ilya Ginzburg
- Georgios J. Gounaris
and they are requesting travel support. So we should make
sure
that they contribute as much as possible to the workshop.
There is some travel money available. More can be had if needed.
We should contact Grannis, who is giving a wine and cheese at
Fermilab on Thursday next week.
Maria Krawczyk arrives on 20-Jan, and will stay for 3 weeks,
based at Fermilab. (She needs a desk and terminal on the
third floor...)
